Why we need a Doctor-on Board?
Most Tours or Photography groups DO NOT cater for safety.
For safety reason, we are traveling to an area where our highest point is over 4000m. We are going to stay consecutive 8 nights in High Altitude (Over 3000m). We believe that your safety is our Priority. We have set precautionary measures and procedures to evacuate you to lower ground as fast as possible. Places that we go are not the normal tourist spot, and we need to ensure that we are able to get medical assistance 24 hours.
High Altitude Sickness (HAS) Awareness
High Altitude Sickness / Acute mountain sickness is an illness that can affect mountain climbers, hikers, skiers, or travelers at high altitudes, usually above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters).
Your symptoms will also depend on the speed of your climb and how hard you push (exert) yourself. Symptoms range from mild to life-threatening. They can affect the nervous system, lungs, muscles, and heart.
Poor appetite and/or nausea/vomiting
The best way to try to prevent altitude sickness is to climb up (ascend) to higher altitudes slowly. This gives time for your body to adapt to conditions (acclimatise). Different people will acclimatise at different rates. Remember to drink enough fluids (keep well hydrated) and eat enough food (stay well nourished).
Early diagnosis is important. Acute mountain sickness is easier to treat in the early stages.
The doctor or nurse will examine you and listen to your chest with a stethoscope. This may reveal sounds called crackles (rales) in the lung. Rales may be a sign of fluid in the lungs.
The main treatment for all forms of mountain sickness is to climb down (descend) to a lower altitude as rapidly and safely as possible. You should not continue climbing if you develop symptoms. Extra oxygen should be given, if available. People with severe mountain sickness may need to be admitted to a hospital.
Fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema)
Swelling of the brain (cerebral edema), which can lead to seizures, mental changes, or permanent damage to the nervous system
